For months, the world of sports has been making headlines in the Web 3.0 ecosystem. Fan Token, cryptocurrencies, NFT, metaverse, the use cases are numerous and the opportunities endless. More and more players are undertaking strategic thinking and announcing partnerships with the largest blockchain infrastructures, exchanges or even marketplaces. Whether in sport or esport, the race for innovation is well and truly on to reinvent the link with fans and business models.
In this movement, and without much surprise, FIFA, a major player in the world of sport, has just announced an exclusive partnership with Algorand both on the sponsorship side, but also within the framework of a technical partnership. Through this agreement, Algorand then becomes the official FIFA blockchain platform and undertakes to provide the wallet based on its blockchain. Algorand also becomes a regional supporter of the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 in North America and Europe, as well as the official sponsor of the FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023.
"We are delighted to announce this partnership with Algorand. This collaboration is a clear indication of FIFA's commitment to continuously seek innovative channels for sustainable revenue growth to reinvest in football by providing transparency to our stakeholders and football fans around the world, a key part of our vision to make football truly global. I look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Algorand," announced FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The Algorand blockchain has become particularly well known for its low carbon approach, which marks a turning point in the positioning and development of blockchain technologies. Indeed, thanks to a partnership with ClimateTrade, Algorand has launched the concept of carbon offsetting based on the blockchain, which consists of converting its costs into carbon credits. Founded by Silvio Micalli, the Algorand blockchain is now used by more than 2,000 organizations around the world, particularly in the finance, gaming, music, art and sports sectors. Its DNA is strongly rooted in the ability of Web3 to accelerate growth, inclusion, transparency and innovation in an environmentally responsible way.
A blockchain that therefore promotes inclusion, opportunity and transparency, values shared by FIFA, a recognized and distinguished organization in the sports industry that intends to highlight the potential of the blockchain to transform the way we live the global game.
FIFA, a player strongly committed to Web 3.0
This announcement does not come as a surprise since FIFA had already signed a partnership with the world-famous exchange Crypto.com as the official sponsor of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. from November 2022 will then be able to proudly display the Crypto.com logos displayed on the grounds, thus holding exclusivity and a significant communication force. The signing of this new partnership nevertheless raises the question of how FIFA will deploy its blockchain use cases between Crypto.com and Algorand.
The enthusiasm announced by FIFA for the crypto ecosystem once again confirms the trend of massive adoption by the general public and sports fans of Web 3.0.
